KATIE COTMARSH
My craft practice is founded upon the intention to create beautiful heritage knitwear, that plays an integral role in regenerating the landscape and supporting nature recovery. Each piece I make is a creative expression of my life spent working the land, honouring the balance of nature and the role of farming in our countryside.

one-flock knitwear
On our organic farm, I grow all the fibre for my knitwear from our flock of over 300 native breed sheep - grown, spun and finished within 130 miles. I have started cultivating my own colour in our botanical dye garden, allowing me to work with a natural palette rooted in my landscape.
hand crafted + design led
My journey with my flock's wool started with a desire to give our clothes the kind of traceability we are looking for with our food. The more I learnt about the environmental and social tragedies occurring all along the fashion supply chain, the more important it became for my knitwear to stand for a new way of producing clothes. One that honoured the process of making, elevated the experience of natural fibres and which had an aspirational quality that meant each piece would be treasured.

from the land
I make each piece in my studio, which sits in the farmhouse attic overlooking my dye garden and our farm beyond. I use a hand-powered knitting machine with the no-waste process of fully fashioning, so each piece is knitted separately and sewn together by hand. Every piece is distinctive in design, offering bold patterns and natural colours rooted in the landscape.
